More pics from Scofield

Just some more pictures including the biggest catch of the day, a really nice 16 inch cutthroat.

Finally! Ice off at Scofield

So after Matt and I heard that there was some fishable water at Scofield, we made plans to go down the next day. We got there around 5 in the afternoon and started fishing. Right away I caught 3 rainbows in about 30 minutes, and saw a pretty big tiger trout follow my lure in. There werent that big, but still fun to catch. Then we left and to go explore the rest of the lake. We took a road that led nowhere, but finally reached another good spot where the ice was about 20-30 feet off the shore. We caught a bunch more there including matt's huge crawdad. Hilarious! We moved to a different section of the bank as the sun was going down and started to catch fish almost every other cast. We kept a few for dinner and overall it was a very fun trip. Nothing huge, but a lot of fish. We ended up catching three different species including rainbows, cuttthroats, and i caught a Utah Chub(the gold looking fish). I guess four if we include the crawdad.

15 minutes

After getting done with a school project, I had exactly 15 minutes to do some fishing. It took about 3 minutes to catch this brown. With the strong current and a big fight, I thought I was reeling in a big log. Fortunately it was a fish. The fish kept on biting for the next 12 minutes but I had to leave! Wish I could have stayed all day with that kind of fishing!

It's all in the Synergy Sweater :)

Beautiful South Fork and Snake River

My wife and I went to the South Fork. It is one of the most beautiful rivers I have ever seen. Nick, you need to come up for a visit! I have yet to fish this river but it looks amazing.

Another stretch of the famous South Fork

Caught this guy at Lorenzo Bridge on the Snake

Same Fish

The very last cast of the day, I reeled in this beautiful and strong brown. Put up a huge fight and nearly broke my walmart reel. The picture is blurry because the sun had just about disappeared and my camera phone doesn't have a flash.

Should have taken a few more pictures of this fish. Best fish I've caught in a awhile.

Pete decided to take his shirt off and hold up my fish.

Addicted....

After his near death fall into the river, my bro-in-law Pete decided he NEEDED more FISHING! So, we went back to the same spot we were at earlier on the Snake. After an hour, we had plenty of bites but no fish to show for it. As we headed back to the car, (dry this time) I suggested we try one more spot about 100 yards away. Pete tossed his line in and caught a beauty. Overtaking his fishing spot, I casted into a fast current and also pulled out a beauty! This is getting to be too much fun....

Snake River Fishing

I bought a fishing license for my bro-in-law for his birthday. We went this Tuesday morning at 6 am. Unfortunately, it had snowed about 1/2 an inch during the night and was still snowing in the morning! Feeling brave, we decided to try and fish anyway. With snow falling and temperatures dropping, we hit the snake river at the lorenzo bridge. Only 20 minutes into fishing we caught 5 beautiful browns. We were both determined to catch a monster fish and the fish were biting like crazy. My bro-in-law decided to get the cooler to put the fish in, when all of sudden..... standing on a snowy rock.... in slow motion..... he looses his balance, his fishing pole goes flying, and he falls face first into the river! It was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen. He ran to the car to get warm and I drove him home, ruining our chance for the monster fish.

Boise River = Bad Fishing

I went and visited my parents this week in Boise, Idaho. My dad and I decided to hit the rivers and lakes and fish for a few hours each day. But the Boise River, is a big no no from my experience. After 2 days of frustration on this big river, I found out that the Boise during the spring is extremely difficult to fish. The spring runoff and fluctuating waters makes fishing difficult. Not to mention these fish see lures all day long. I then found out that where we were fishing, was mostly bass, browns, and weird fish (not an actual fish). We had been using the wrong lures most of time. We decided to ditch the rivers and went to some community ponds where we caught about 15 trout, all about a foot long. Certainly nothing to brag about. So much for amazing western Idaho, I'm sticking to the eastside.

My first catch on a dry fly!!

Now that I have all the equipment necessary to fly fish, I have been itching to get out there and try my skills. I went after work to one of my spots on the lower provo river. Once I got all setup, I went down to one of my favorite spots and started to cast out. I didnt see any fish rising, so I started with a couple of wet flies. There were a few other fly fisherman around so I'm sure I looked like an idiot when I couldnt get my line out there, or got it tangled in a bush behind me. After about an hour of no luck with the wet flies, the fish started to rise and feed off the surface. I decided to try a dry fly to see if I could catch one that way. I wasnt too optimistic because I have heard dry flies are harder to catch fish with. I tried anyway, and after about ten minutes I had my first fish on. It was so awesome watching my little fly on the surface be attacked from below by a nice brown trout. I fought him for a while and he was a pretty good fighter, he jumped out of the water a few times and kept running on me downstream. After about 5 minutes of fighting I was finally able to land him. I am now hooked on fly fishing.

More Cutthroat

Fished the Teton River in Rexburg this afternoon. Same place, same time, same lure I used before. Only, different fish. This fish was larger and much stronger than the other fish I caught. I battled this guy for about 3 minutes before I could get him close to the shore. Beautiful looking cutthroat with bright red marks on his neck and on the side of his head. It only took me 1 minute to get to this spot from my house and another 10 minutes to catch this guy.

I need someone to come along to help photograph these fish!
