New to the blog- Brent Carver

I caught this Brown Trout just under 24 inches. I estimate around 5-6 pounds. I caught him on an orange and black spoon on the Henry's Fork April 15th or so. I was fishing 6 feet above the water, I was on an embankment. My younger brother luckily got wet and helped me net him.

Where else? Strawberry!!

We hit up Strawberry again this last saturday early in the morning. We got there at around 6:00 am and instantly caught some fish. Me and matt both got two really nice cutts, with matt getting the biggest one at a little over 21 inches. We then tried some different spots and couldnt get anything going. It slowed way down. We eventually made our way to the marina and caught a bunch of little rainbows from 6-12 inches. Nothing worth taking a picture of, but it was still fun. Not the best day at Strawberry, but well worth the trip.

So, nick and I went up to strawberry thinking it was going to be a perfect day for fishing. We got up there around 6 and fished at the ladders. Nothing was biting and all the ice was practically thawed out. It was a nice day with plenty of daylight so we decided to go to our normal spot. We got our waders on and went out fishing for 30 minutes. Nick caught a nice rainbow/cutthroat, then caught another cutthroat all within 30 minutes. Then the wind picked up and we saw the huge storm coming towards us. After having lake waves about 1 foot high we decided it was just too much. So we decided to leave

After we left we decided to hit up deer creek on the way home. The water was glass with no wind just as dusk coming. We casted out a few times with no bites but we could see things jumping from the water thinking it had to be fish. I casted my line a good 25 feet out and when my lure got close to the shore I saw something big chasing it. It took the hook!!!!!!, I got a HUGE FISH!!!!!, right? No, when i pulled it in it was a bird. It was a western grebe. I tried for a little bit to get my lure back, but it was in the beak. I cut the line, the bird swam out a ways and I could see my $4 lure in its mouth. Thanks bird. It was a crazy day for fishing.

Got a BIG ONE

GOT A BIG ONE~! Almost as big as the one below! Fished the South Fork and it punked us. Thought we were headed to the best fishing in the world and instead we got a nice view of the area. We found out that we weren't the only ones having a bad day on the river. A bunch of other guys struggled with the high flows from the run-off. One guy on the forums claimed he caught 20 fish in a few hours on the South Fork, claiming he had a secret lure. I am going to find out this secret lure, throw it in the garbage can, and find one that is even better. Better luck next week!

Strawberry again!!!

Matt and I hit Strawberry again this morning and killed it, again!! This time Dave came with us and brought his little boy. We got there at an early 5:45 right as it was light enough to see anything. This time matt had his waders, which proved to be crucial in catching fish today. We headed out and instantly started hooking up with some fish. They were all cutthroats and all at least 18 inches or longer. After me and matt both caught two nice ones, my camera died, so we dont have more. We each ended up with 4 really nice cutts, and a few that we had had hooked up that got off. The biggest was a really nice 22 incher that i caught after my camera died. Ice off at strawberry is officially the best ever. Casey you really need to get down here asap. We also caught 4 crawdads that matt took home to cook up. All in all a great trip once again.

Strawberry!!!

Matt and I headed up to Strawberry today to see if there was any open water that would be fishable. After trying a couple of spots that werent very productive, we stopped at a spot Casey and I fished last year. After the first cast we were into the fish, and big fish! Matt caught a huge cutthroat to start the day and the fishing never slowed down after that. We landed 5 big cutts total, and missed a few more. The biggest was my last one, which we werent able to measure or weigh, but was a very big fish, probably about 6-7 pounds. They were a lot of work to reel in, but tons of fun. What a day. We used kastmasters all day, silver and orange, and silver with red sticker.

Fun Farm Bridge

Woke up at 5:30 to do some fishing on Henrys Fork just North of St. Anthony, Idaho. I fished for about an hour and it was cold, rainy, and nothing was biting. I drove another 10 minutes North to Fun Farm Bridge. After trying my miracle "tube" lure for 30 minutes, I gave up on it. I decided the only alternative would be the better miracle lure, "Kastmaster!" After 5 minutes, I got hooked on this nice Rainbow. He measured 17 inches long and is real thick. He will be in the frying pan tomorrow night.

Afterwards I went to Lorenzo Bridge with Pete and I caught a few small browns. With the crappy weather and high run-off waters, the fishing wasn't too good there. Hopefully things get better at Lorenzo as the weather warms up.
